I'm actually sort of disappointed that I missed 12:34:56 on 07/08/09 yesterday. I don't know what I would have done to commemorate it, but it's the thought.

Make her stop crying. Make her stop crying. Oh, sweet Merlin, make her stop crying
She stopped. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph she stopped
It really is wonderful to have Teacake home with us even though she won't stop crying Nora is still rather put out that she can't walk around or talk yet. I don't think she was really expecting to have a ready made playmate right off the bat, but she was hopeful. I also don't think she was expecting to be taught how to change diapers, but she seems to have an aptitude for it which means only one thing: less diapers for me to change.
I think I might have forgotten just how exhausting a having a newborn around can be. There are moments (like right now) when it's nice and quiet because she's managed to go down for a nap that we have learned to cherish, but I think that I had convinced myself that because we have gone through all of this once before with Nora it meant that we were wise and learned in the ways of parenting - but I was wrong. We might know more than last time, but Deirdra is certainly a different sort of baby than Nora was.
Just last night, though, I was - oh, there she is again. It's like a bloody siren

Seamus already announced the arrival of our youngest, so I won't go through all of that excitement again. I was able to come home today and I only stayed yesterday because I requested it and since everyone knows me fairly well at St. M's, they didn't argue with me. I only went home for a short while, though, and I'm currently writing this from the hospital.
Deirdra will be staying for the next couple of days, however, just because she was born a full month before she was expected. Despite being premature, she's very healthy which I'm sure you can imagine is a load off of both of our minds. The Healers told us that she was a bit anemic when she was born, but they gave her a potion for that right off the bat. I feel incredibly lucky; although she wasn't born incredibly premature there are scores of things that could have gone wrong but didn't.
Nora has been jumping off the walls in excitement because of the arrival of her sister. Although, I think she was just a bit disappointed that she wasn't born ready to play tag and climb trees just yet.
That being said, the hospital gave me a copy of the picture they took to submit to the newborn section in the Daily Prophet and I can't help but show off - I mean, share.
( Picture! )
If you're curious, she was born at four pounds and fourteen ounces and is exactly 44 centimeters long.

To those who came to the shower: thank you! Teacake now has a beautiful collection on her bookshelf and is already on the way to becoming a reader - which we all already know would have been impossible for her not to become with parents like myself and Seamus. Exhibit A: Nora.
To the illustrious hostess: thank you! Su, you're a goddess. Don't let anyone ever tell you otherwise.
In other news, I am currently writing this from the porch on our house in Greece because I wanted some baklava from a cafe nearby and Padma was kind enough to help indulge me in this. As of Thursday, I am 33 weeks and my midwife told me that after 34 weeks I wasn't to Floo or portkey or anything until after Teacake makes her appearance. So, basically, this was my last chance and like hell I was going to pass it up. I have to say, though...the next month or so could hurry on up. That would be nice!
But anyway, thanks again! I appreciate it.

Hey. When are you going to be back?
I know, I know. I should know this and it is marked on my calendar, but you have to understand. I am sitting here on the couch and my calendar is all of the way through the sitting room, then the dining room and kitchen, down the hallway, up the stairs...and then in my studio. It is really a great deal simpler for me to just ask you this way.

| Warded Against Jason "Bloody Stupid" Turpin |
[June 20] |
I could just skin my brother. I know that Jason doesn't have any children, but does that give him the right to be a complete dolt around mine? He has enough nieces and nephews to go around, so Merlin only knows he should have picked something up eventually, but apparently not.
I mean, for Merlin's sake.
Okay, let me back up.
Nora and I went to my dad's this afternoon so Seamus could have some writing time to himself and we were overdue for a visit. Because it was the middle of the day, Jason and my dad were working down in the pub and getting ready for the evening and whatever it is that they do. My dad wanted to give me some baby clothes that stupid Patty had come across while cleaning out her attic for Teaca Grace. I left Nora with Jason, thinking that she would be relatively safe. I mean, Jason is a dolt but he's not completely stupid. Right?
So, naturally, I come downstairs to find my five-year-old staring at her uncle like he was a manticore and was about to attack her. Why? Because he had just told her the story of The Warlock's Hairy Heart and basically scarred her for life.
I didn't actually hear that story until I was eleven and in Hogwarts and I was still a bit put off by it. Our mum refused to tell us it because she was convinced we'd have nightmares until we were 35. Why, why, why it would possess him to think it was a good idea is beyond me but I'm still rather livid even though Dad calmed me down and kept me from all out punching my brother. Being pregnant makes me cra
I mean, really.

I love the end of the school year. Not because it means it's, you know, the end of the school year, but because today I had three girls come in and give me a hug and said goodbye before the end of the day.
Teenage girls can be sweet! Who knew?

[June 04] |
I was playing Seamus today on Animal Crossing and I killed him. He was going around trying to catch fireflies with his net and out of nowhere he started to get chased by this black thing that I later found out isn't a thing so much as a tarantula. I found this out when he was bitten, spun around in the circle while the television went all funny looking, and he collapsed. He came back to life in his house, but that's besides the point.
RIP Animal Crossing Seamus. We knew you well.

[May 26] |
Over this past weekend, Nora and I went for a walk down to the park that is just a short while away from our house. Despite that it was her idea to go for the walk, she acted as though I was forcing her. The only way she would accept going on this walk was if she got to dress herself. Now, she was already dressed (in a very cute outfit, I might add) from the morning, but those clothes just wouldn't do.
The following photograph shows exactly what she decided was a suitable outfit.
( Picture! )
She makes me proud.
